Camper Shell Roof Rack and Ladder Rack for a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

Question:

Hi, I have a 2002 Chevy s-10 with a Leer 122 camper shell on it. I am looking for options to attach a roof rack to the camper shell. Since is is the 122, the roof slopes up. I would like to see options for a rack mounted on the shell, as well as a ladder rack that could attach to the frame underneath the shell and stay on with our without the shell being utilized.

I have a solution for you, but there's unfortunately no ladder racks that are compatible with the 2002 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup with a camper shell installed.

Instead, I recommend a modular system that uses the same rails to swap between the two setups. These racks don't come in a premade kit, so I've specified the quantity of each part that you'll need.

For the rack on the camper shell itself, you'll want to get a Yakima Round Bar set, consisting of the following parts:

1 Track Kit, 42 inches, part # Y01126, 54 inches, part # Y01127 or 60 inches, part # Y01135

2 Yakima Landing Pad 1 Fit Kit for Yakima Tracks, part # Y00221

4 Yakima Control Towers, part # Y8890027

Please note that the Landing Pad kit comes in a 2 count pack, and the Control Towers come as single pieces, so you'll want to make sure that you have the right number in your cart prior to checking out.

This creates a roof rack system that will mount to tracks on your camper shell.

For the ladder rack part, you'll want the following:

Yakima Outdoorsman 300 Ladder Rack with 58 inch Crossbars, part # Y01136-Y00409

This package creates a clamp-on ladder rack for your vehicle that can be quickly removed when you're wanting to step back to your camper shell.

This setup also lets you just swap the bar between the two kits, avoiding any compatibility issues between the roof rack and any accessories you're looking to use on the kits.
