Using the Saris Traps with a 52cm Road Bike in the Rear of a 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

is it possible to use this Saris product with a fork mount for transporting a 52cm road bicycle inside a 2017 Subaru Outback? Will it only work with the saddle/seat post removed?

With some basic research, it looks like there should be enough room for the bike to fit when using the Saris Traps, part # SATRK33.

Your bike's largest part is about 20.47 inches at the seatpost, and the 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon's second row headroom is 38 inches. With the seat folded down, this likely drops to about 26 to 29 inches, and so you should be clear to load the bike with the seat installed. I would still take a measurement of the height actually available inside your vehicle prior to purchasing with the front seat folded down. (I wasn't able to find this measurement readily available or verifiable).

The measurement you'll want is with the bikes' front wheel removed, the distance from the ground to the top of the seat post. You'll compare this against the lowest and highest point of your roof inside the vehicle to the back of the folded down seat. This is to make sure you have ample room to load and be ready for any odd turns that you may have to make with the bike on its way into the vehicle.

Because of the ability to orient the bike however you'd like while using the Traps, you can also check the rear cargo area's total available space which may be a little small with the rear wheel installed. Don't forget you'll probably also want to get the Traps wheel carrier, part # SAWHL1 to complete your setup.
