Base Plates to Flat Tow a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock with AEV Front Bumper

Question:

I have a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock Edition with an after market AEV bumper. Which base plates fit? I already have a Roadmaster tow bar, but read that none of the Roadmaster base plates were compatible with the AEV bumper. Ive attached pics the silver ring on the right hook in pic isnt supposed to be there. There is a skid plate from the edge of the bumper that extends back - will that have to be modified for the base plate to fit?

I checked with AEV and found that you can use the D-ring mounts on that bumper to flat tow the Jeep. If the D-ring mounts are 3/4 inches thick with 7/8 inch or 1 inch diameter holes you can use # RM-035 with a Roadmaster tow bar. If the D-ring mounts are 1 inch thick with 7/8 inch or 1 inch diameter holes you can use # RM-035-1. The tow bar would have to be an RV mount model such as the Falcon 2 # RM-520.

The good news is that if the D-ring mounts are compatible with either of the adapters mentioned above it will save you a lot of money!

My aftermarket Jeep bumper has 1/2 inch thick D rings. The bumper manufacturer says it can be towed. With the mounts being 3/4 wide, will this be ok with the slack or can you use washers etc?

The Adapter for Jeep D-Ring Bumper Mounts to Roadmaster Motor Home Mount Tow Bars - 3/4" Thick # RM-035 will fit 3/4 inch thick shackle mounts with pins fitting 7/8 inch or (or 1 inch with sleeve) diameter mounting holes. If that is what you have these will work well. If you are saying that the holes are only 1/2 inch diameter then they will not work and you would need to ask the bumper manufacturer if the shackle mounts can be drilled out and still be towed. If the shackle mounts are only 1/2 inch thick, then I would need to check with your bumper manufacturer on fit. If not, then you would need to consider an alternative like the Curt Tow Bar with Adjustable-Width Arms # C19745 that has mounts that will bolt directly to the bumper.
