When you step on the brakes or use the manual override, the light on the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller, # 39510, should turn red. If it is not turning red, this could indicate several possible issues.
You may not be getting a signal on the brake controller red wire. Use a circuit tester like # 3808 to probe the red wire when you step on the brake pedal. If it shows a signal, then it is working, if it does not, test the corresponding pin on the truck where it plugs in. It could be that the brake signal pin on the truck is different than on the wiring harness, # 3015-P, which is correct for a 2004 Chevy Silverado. If this is the case, move the red wire to the correct location and try again.
If you connected the red wire to the brake switch above the brake pedal, it may not be connected to the right wire. It needs to be connected to the wire that shows a signal ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed. If it shows a signal with the headlights on or turn signals, it is not the correct wire.
Another possible cause is the sensor may not be level. You will just need to follow the Leveling the Sensor section of the instructions to correct the issue. You can also use the owners manual to find the location of the stop light fuse to determine if it is blown and needs to be replaced.
There also may be some connections that you will need to make under the hood. I have incldued an FAQ article that explains the process.
