Canoe Carrier for 1997 Honda Accord Wagon

Question:

I have a low mileage, 1997 Honda Accord wagon with the factory roof rack and cross-bars. This rack is not suitable for carrying a 90lb., 16 ft. canoe. Thus, I need a rack to fit this cars roof properly, with legs that will clamp solidly to the car, having bars that will clear the factory rack and be stable and strong enough to carry the above canoe. Will this INB117 carrier do this for me?

Inno doesn't make a fit kit for your vehicle, so you won't be able to use part # INB117.

Instead, I recommend the SportRack Square Semi-Custom, part # SR1002. This will provide a suitable rack that has a higher capacity for your canoe.

However, you need to check the weight capacity in your owner's manual prior to loading the canoe, as this will likely be the limiting factor. The Semi-Custom has a capacity of 130 pounds, but there's a good chance the capacity of your roof is lower.

For a carrier, I recommend the Yakima KeelOver , part # Y04069. This will add guides and padding to your roof rack, making loading your canoe easier and faster than putting it directly on the bars.
