Draw Tite Or Curt Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Chevy Malibu LTZ
Question:
Why is it that the Curt hitch for a 2014 Malibu LTZ has a 50# greater tongue weight capacity that the Draw-Tite hitch and yet the Curt requires a stabilizer strap and the Draw-Tite does not when using a bicycle rack? Seems like the one with a greater tongue weight capacity would be more stable, not less with bike rack.

That's a really good question, but the answer is basically just that the Curt hitch and Draw Tite are made by two separate companies who have their own rating systems and safety precautions.
The Curt hitches like the part # C12115 for your 2014 Chevy Malibu LTZ have the stabilizer strap requirement as that's what Curt feels is necessary when using a bike rack to avoid undue stress on the hitch/vehicle.
Draw Tite does not feel their # 36538 needs the strap so they do not require them. If it was me, I would go with the Draw Tite since it does not have the strap requirement. This will make using a bike rack much less of a hassle.
