Replacement Winch Cable and Roller Bunks for Reduced Friction on Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a 2008 25foot Monterey cabin cruiser my trailer winch cable broke. I was wondering if I can switch to the nylon strap. My boat weights 5600 lbs and with fuel and equipment on board i would say closer to 6200 lbs. The trailer has carpeted bunks but usually only have to pull a short distance onto the trailer.

Some boat trailer winches we offer can be used with either a wire rope or a polyester strap, such as Dutton-Lainson Direct Drive Winch # DL15440, but others need to use one or the other, including the Fulton XLT you referenced, part # F142425 which must use a polyester strap.

The easiest way to reduce your hull-to-bunk friction when loading the Monterey is to add a pair or two of roller bunks. Roller bunks like # DL21741 will reduce friction substantially and allow your winch to work less hard to get the job done. Using rollers and short winching distances can mean a 3:1 weight ratio, so your 6000+ pound boat will feel more like a 2000-lb boat to the winch.

Replacement winch cables are shown on the linked page.
