How To Convert 4-Way To 5-Way Trailer Wiring on My 2005 Volvo XC90
Question:
I have a tow ready 118411 installed and now I need a 5 way flat plug. Can I cut off the 4 way and splice on the 5 way then splice directly to the backup light wire?

We actually have a 4-way to 5-way adapter that will connect to your existing 4-way connector on your 2005 Volvo XC90. You will need to use the Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole, part # 20036, which will plug into the 4-way on your Volvo. Then, as you stated, you will run the included blue wire and splice into the reverse light circuit, making the connection with the included quick splice. You will need to use a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993 to find the reverse light wire.
I have linked a video installation of Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole, part # 20036, on a different vehicle, but the process is the same.
