Should Hitch Jaws be Open or Shut When Backing into Reese Hitch RP30047?

Do you back into hitch with jaws closed?

The hitch jaws of Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch # RP30047 should be shut when you back your king pin into it. According to the instructions on page 7, "With handle in the closed position, back truck slowly into trailer. As the trailer king pin enters the hitch it will push the hitch jaws open and extend the handle. As king pin completely enters head, jaws will spring closed around king pin."
