For your 2012 Honda Odyssey, you can absolutely use the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # TK90160. To install a brake controller in your vehicle, you will need to use the universal installation kit # ETBC7. This kit comes with all the wiring and connectors you will need because your vehicle does not have a factory tow package available that would allow that prewired. The method of installation will be found in the attached video, however as you stated the harness they mention is for a different controller and your controller comes with the harness needed for your application. The colors and functions of this installation will be the same, so don't let that throw you. I recommend using the No-Drill Mount Bracket, Short # 18140 if you don't want to drill additional holes to mount your trailer connector.
This universal wiring kit, does require that you have a four way flat trailer connection on your van prior. If you don't already have this, I recommend you begin with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118521.
To clarify, there is an order to follow. First install a 4-way trailer connector if you don't already have one. Then install the 7-way connector to that and add the additional wires as shown in the video and attached article. Finally, connect your brake controller. You will not need any additional parts. This will give you the functional 7-way to use with a trailer with brakes.
