Is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide Compatible with a 5th Airborne Air Ride to Use on a 2017 Ford F-350
Question:
NewB to 5th wheel. 2017 F350 short bed needs a slider hitch. Auto slide seems really nice. Also, a cushioned connection e.g., air ride? seems like it would reduce stress between truck and trailer. I gather that you cant have both? If so, can you confirm pros and cons of each?

The autosliding 5th wheel hitches are definitely the way to go with a truck bed that is under 8 feet, like your 2017 Ford F-350 with a 6-3/4 foot bed. I like to recommend them because they eliminate the need to get in and out of your truck when cornering. They also feature the single wraparound jaw for full 360-degree contact with the king pin and a 3/4 inch steel locking bar for added security. The cushioning that they provide helps to reduce chucking and jarring and the brackets on the side help to stabilize the pin box from your trailer.
We offer the Demco Hijacker Autosliding 5th Wheel Hitch with 2 different weight capacities; 18,000 lbs and 21,000 lbs. If you do not have the factory puck system on your F-350 I recommend installing the Below Bed Rails # DM8551009 so that you have a clean bed when you are not towing your trailer. The Hijacker options compatible with these bed rails are part # DM8550022 for 18K and part # DM8550037 for 21K. If you already have the factory puck system installed on your F-350 then you will just need the hitch itself; part # DM8550024 for 18K or part # DM8550038 for 21K.
You are definitely correct that using the Hijacker with an Air Ride pin box would be a good combination. The reason why it seems like the 5th Airborne Air Ride pin boxes might not work is due to the brackets on the Hijacker that secure the pin box. They are actually compatible, you will just need to use a locking plate like part # DM6026 or # DM6062.
If you let me know what model pin box you have (like the common Lippert 1621) I can recommend an upgrade since they are specific.
If you do not already have a 7-Way connector in the bed of your F-350 then I recommend installing the Bargman # 50-97-410-010 because it will help to make connecting and disconnecting your trailer much easier.
I have attached some review videos for you to check out as well.
