Can 5.70-8 Trailer Tire Replace 4.80-8

Question:

I have a 2017 Komfort Kamp Mini Mate pop up tent trailer, designed to be towed behind a motorcycle. The original tires are Load Star 4.80 / 400 - 8 load range B. With just under 4500 miles, the amount of tread wear says Ill be replacing tires in a few thousand miles. Im wondering if the Kenda 5.70 - 8 part # AM30155 will fit my trailer. How much larger is the 5.70 - 8 over the original 4.80/4-8 ? What does that number tell me about the tire? And where is that measurement taken on the tire? I need to determine if a larger tire will fit. Thank you for any info you can provide.

Yes, a 5.70-8 tire will fit the same rim that a 4.80-8 tire fit. They both are designed to fit 8 inch diameter rims that are 3-3/4 inches wide. The larger tire will end up being 2 inches taller overall so you would end up with 1 inch less of fender clearance vertically.

For a tire in this size that would work well you would want the part # AM30155. This is a Load Range D tire with a 1,075 lb capacity at 100 psi.
