Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch For 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with 6-1/2 Foot Bed
Question:
I have a Companion turnover hitch from my 2012 Chevrolet 2500. Can I purchase the BWRVB3700 and use the head from my existing setup? I have a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with the fifth wheel prep package and the short bed. Is there an auto slide hitch available for my truck?

I spoke with my contact at B&W regarding the Replacement Base for B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVB3700 referenced in your question. She stated that you can absolutely use this base to replace the legs on your existing Companion for it to be compatible with the Silverado rail kit. She did also confirm that this will fit the factory rail kit on your 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500.
With that being said, since you do have a short bed, I recommend using a sliding hitch that will provide the necessary cab clearance when making sharp turns. For an auto slide unit, I highly recommend the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550034. This 18,000 pound 5th Wheel Hitch features an automatic slider that has 14 inches of travel and a premium, wraparound jaw to provide an excellent connection with the trailer king pin. You will just need to add the Rail Adapter # DM6194 so that it can mount to the factory rail kit in your Silverado. I did confirm with Demco that this will fit the 2018 Silverado 2500.
I have attached a video demonstration on this hitch so you can see exactly how it works.
