Recommended Weight Distribution System for Travel Trailer Weighing Around 3,000 lbs
Question:
hello, looking for a weight distributor for a 2011 chevy equinox v6..towing a travel trailer weighing around 3,000lbs. only thing is not sure on the tongue weight

Expert Reply:
The tongue weight of a trailer is typically 10-15% of the total trailer weight when loaded. So you will most likely be looking at a tongue weight of 450 lbs. Your hitch is able to handle this weight, but this trailer is beyond the towing capacity of your vehicle.
For weight distribution, you want to include the total tongue weight which is the loaded tongue weight of the trailer as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. For this trailer, I recommend theReese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66558. This system is rated for total tongue weights between 400 and 600 lbs and will work with 2 inch hitch receivers.
This system will require a hitch ball like # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter or # A-90 for a 2 inch diameter
