The Thule Sidekick Cargo Box # TH78GC is designed in such a way to help keep water from the road and elements out and off of your gear. However, with that being said, it is not waterproof. There's always a chance water can get inside the box and on your things. So if you're carrying something that absolutely cannot get wet I recommend sealing it in some sort of bag and then put it in a cargo box or carrying it inside the vehicle.
