Helpful Expert Reply:
I recommend the most popular brake controller for the 2011 Ford Edge, which is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195. This controller is easy to install, includes a customizable LCD display, has 3 boost settings, battery protection and continuous diagnostics. You will also need the Brake Controller Installation Kit, # ETBC7 which includes the 7-way and all of the wiring and connectors you will need. I'd also pick up some dielectric grease # LT37534, which will be needed.
I've attached a link to this installation being completed on a 2016 Ford Edge, which should help you to visualize the job, and to some helpful articles.
