Parts Needed to Convert Curt Q20 5th Wheel Hitch to Slider for New Truck
Question:
WE BOUGHT A 5TH WHEEL WHICH CAME WITH A CURT Q20 HITCH AND RAILS FROM A DODGE 2500. I HAVE A 2008 FORD SUPER DUTY DIESEL 4 DOOR AND A 61/2 FOOT BED. MY CONCERN IS: WILL THE CURT Q20 HITCH FIT MY RIG AND DO I NEED A ROLLER SLIDER SINCE MY BED IS SHORT?? I PAID FOR THE HITCH WHEN WE BOUGHT THE 5TH WHEEL THINKING THE HITCH FROM THE DODGE TOW VEHICLE WOULD JUST BOLT RIGHT TO MY SUPER DUTY OR DO I NEED NEW RAILS AND AN ADAPTER TO EVEN USE THE Q20 HITCH. THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

Starting with the 5th-wheel trailer Hitch itself, I do recommend going to a sliding 5th-wheel, as this will provide you with the necessary clearance to make sharp turns in your short bed Ford Super Duty. Your existing Curt Q20 # C16130 can actually be converted to a slider by replacing the fixed legs with the Curt R20 Round Tube Slider # C16550. This will provide 12 inches of front to back travel for added clearance.
Your existing rails will work just fine with your Curt Q20 and your new truck, but you will need a new set of brackets and hardware.
If you are able to give me the manufacturer or model of your existing rails, I will be happy to recommend a compatible bracket kit. These will need to be specific to your current rails in order to ensure that they will work.
