How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Without Factory 7-Way Trailer Wiring

Question:

My 2001 Jeep Cherokee did not come with a Tow Package. I have installed the OEM 4 wire brake harness and also have readied the wiring for installation of a P3 brake controller. However after I have completed all of this work, I noticed that I have a light blue adapter underneath my dash where a brake controller adapter would plug in. There was no factory installed 7 pin plug prior to my installing one. What is this adapter plug? And can I use it?

The best option on Jeep vehicles without a factory 7-way is to use the # ETBC7 brake controller installation kit that you purchased, see instructions link.

The 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee without tow package may have the connector under the dash from the factory, but, if present, it most likely is not fully functional. In addition there was no 7-Way at the rear of the vehicle so the blue wire from the harness is terminated somewhere in the factory wiring harness. We do not recommend digging around in the factory wiring harness to find this wire because we do not know where to start looking and you will still need to splice wires to connect to the trailer connector.

The # TK93VR connector is designed only for the 2011 and newer Jeep Grand Cherokee with factory 7-way. If your 2001 Jeep Cherokee had the factory 7-Way wiring the Brake Control Wiring Adapter, item # 3020-P, would be the correct harness.
