5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2015 Ram 2500 with Ram Boxes

Question:

I see in the 5th wheel hitch section of you site it says with factory rails and without factory rails. Does with factory rails equal with Rambox option?

Factory rails is the term used for trucks that came with the factory 5th wheel/gooseneck prep package. That was not an option on models of the 2015 Ram that came with the Ram Box feature.

There is only one way to tow a 5th wheel trailer with a 2015 Ram 2500 that has the Ram Boxes and this is because the bed on that model is more narrow than the regular beds. Because the bed is more narrow the trailer pin box will make contact with the bed sides when turning (if a regular hitch set up is used).

To prevent that from happening you will need the following items:

1) a fixed 5th wheel hitch like Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 16,000 lbs # C16115 with wedge # RP64FR.

2) an installation kit that fits your Ram. Kit # C16427-204, is a great option. This is a custom kit so you won't have to drill into the truck frame for installation.

3) last and most important you will need a Sidewinder pin box on the trailer. The Sidewinder will prevent the pin box and trailer from rotating at the 5th wheel hitch. That means the pin box won't turn and thus will not hit the bed sides. The only thing is that the Sidewinders only fit in place of certain pin boxes. I would need to know the manufacturer and model of the pin box itself to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit. This information is usually on a sticker or plate on the pin box. If not there are measurements you can take to determine which pin box you have. I have linked a help article that shows these measurements.

With this setup you can safely tow a 5th wheel trailer with your 2015 Ram 2500 with Ram Boxes.
