Trailer Disc Brakes not Releasing on Trailer with Titan Model 6 Actuator

Question:

Hello The boat trailer I just bought has Kodiak 10 inch SS disc breaks with a titan model 6 actuator with a reverse lockout solenoid. The disc pads are not releasing when pulling forward. Opening the bleed port allowed the wheel to release, so I dont think the caliper is stuck, it seems to be in the actuator. Do you think I should replace the reverse solenoid or the master cylinder? The reverse solenoid on this unit only has one wire compared to 2 in your video. Id like to order parts as soon as possible. Thanks

I do not think it is the lockout solenoid causing the problem on your model 6 actuator but if it is closing for some reason when braking and moving forward (and then not opening again) that would explain why the brakes won't release. It should have 1 power wire and 1 ground wire. If the ground wire is missing then that could also explain it because it could be a case of the solenoid working intermittently because of that ground.

Here is a test you can do with the actuator: With the trailer not connect to the tow vehicle try pushing in the coupler by hand. If you can move it by hand then there is a problem with the shock. It also could be the master cylinder's push rod getting stuck.

If you want to replace the solenoid it is # T4748800. The master cylinder assembly with the push rod for disc brake models is # T1777405. And the shock for the model 6 is # T1242600. After replacing any parts be sure to thoroughly bleed the brakes. We have a simple bleeding tool you can use, # ALL648591.
