Adding a Trailer Hitch Reciever to a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime for Bike Racks
Question:
New 2017 Prius Prime auto. Want to be able to transport 2 bicycles. Will the hitch for the regular 2017 priuses work with the Prius Prime model. Is there only the 1 1/4inch size or can you get the 2inch size

The 2017 Prius Prime has one confirmed fit, a Curt Class I Receiver Hitch, part # C11473. This is the same hitch as the 2017 Toyota Prius core models.
For Class I Hitches, there are only 1-1/4 inch receivers available, and you'll want to only use accessories that are designed to fit them, as the Class I hitches are designed to prevent accidentally overloading the hitch's weight capacities. You will also want to confirm your Prius Prime's towing capacities in your owner's manual before installing a trailer hitch.
Additionally, Curt requires the use of a Stabilizing Strap, part # 18050, to better improve the stability of your load and to avoid voiding your warranty. Aside from being a good idea to begin with, this has a significant effect on minimizing the risks to your bikes while driving. I've included a video illustrating the use of this strap.
For a bike rack, I recommend the Thule Camber, part # TH9058. This rack includes anti-sway cradles and straps to further minimize the risk of damage. Additionally, this rack is convertible between 1-1/4 inch and 2-inch hitch recievers with an included adapter, allowing you to use it on other vehicles equipped with a trailer hitch. Its tilt-away and fold up features also allow for maximum versitility while it is equipped to your vehicle, and easy access to your rear hatch.
I recommend adding a Swagman Frame Adapter Bar, part # 64005 if you are planning to transport any Women's, step through, children's or aggressive (BMX/Mountain) style bikes. This allows the bikes to ride parallel to the ground rather than at an angle, further minimizing the risk of damage.
