Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier for Carrying Beach Gear and Cornhole Boards

Question:

I need 12 inches from the center hitch pin to the back of the carrier to clear my 35 inch spare tire on my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. What hitch extension do you recommend to give me enough clearance? thank you.

I have just the carrier for you. I tis the 32 X 48 Reese Solo Cargo Carrier # PS1040100 is a steel grate bottomed carrier with low sides, trading features for efficiency and allowing a wide variety of loads. a separate add on ramp, part # PS1040200 is available, allowing you to adjust the platform to multiple applications. This carrier has a weight capacity of 400lbs

To add to this, I recommend a ratchet tie-down kit to better secure your load while in motion.

I've included video reviews of this carrier in action, so you can get a better feel for how they work in use.

The Pro Series Solo, part # PS1040100 has 12 inches from the center of its hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier. If you're concerned about contact, I'd use a hitch extender with this model. To extend past your spare tire, you'll need a Blue Ox Hitch Extender, part # BX88265. This gives you the option of 6-3/4 inches or 8-3/4 inches of distance, letting you adjust it to your needs. Before getting a hitch extender, I would highly suggest doing some careful measuring to see if the 12 inches are enough. If you use a hitch extender you will lower your overall tongue weight capacity by 50%, lowering the overall amount of gear you can carry. This would limit your Reese carrier to only 200 pounds instead of 400 pounds of weight capacity. You may also consider the Reese 32x48 with ramp, part # PS10401-10402, This is the carrier and the ramp together as one purchase. I've added a video of these parts so you can get an idea of its specific features.
