Can 2011 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Rear Doors be Opened with Thule T2 Pro XTR Loaded and Tilted

Question:

For a 2011 Sprinter 3500: 1. How far will rear doors open when rack is declined and both bikes racked? 2. Do you offer any PLATFORM racks that allow full opening of rear doors with both bikes racked? 3. Measurement of horizontal tube from flush with hitch to the point where the first angular tube. I need at least six inches as I have a rear step to traverse. Thank you.

To answer your last question first on the Thule Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV it measures 7 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the pivoting bracket. These measurements are always taken from the center of the hitch pin hole because not all hitches have the same distance from the face of the receiver to their hitch pin hole.

On this rack it measures 7 inches from the center of the pin hole to the nearest rail where the closest bike will be. When tilted down that measurement changes to 19-1/4 inches. But with a bike loaded it will be shorter when tilted. I placed an adult mountain bike on the rack, tilted it, and measured from the center of the pin hole to the closest part of the bike (which was the pedal). For this particular bike it measured 13-1/2 inches. And when tilted the distance from the top of the hitch receiver opening to the highest part of the rack was 8-3/4 inches.

Your best option for a platform rack that will allow the rear doors to open the most on your 2011 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 is going to be the RockyMounts BackStage 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" - Tilting - Swinging Item # RKY10002. This rack will swing off to the side of the vehicle so you will be able to open the rear doors. It has the following measurements:

Distance from center of hitch pin hole to:
Closest part of rack when folded down: 9-1/2"
Closest part of rack when folded up: 7"
Farthest part of rack when folded down: 34"
Farthest part of rack when folded up: 19"

I have linked a video review of this rack for you.
