Parts Needed for Flat Towing My 2007 PT Cruiser Behind a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Question:

Can part#63180 be used to tow my 2007 PT Cruiser Turbo convertible with my 2002 Chevy suburban. If so, what else would I need. If not, can you suggest a mechanism that would work.

Yes, you can use the Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar, item # 63180, to tow your 2007 PT Cruiser Turbo convertible. Keep in mind that this tow bar is rated for towing speeds of 45 miles per hour or less.

A better tow bar option would be the Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bar, # BX7322 , which is designed for towing long distances and more frequently.

You will need some other items along with the tow bar to complete your towing setup.

First, a base plate kit for the PT Cruiser is needed. The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, item # BX1968, is the correct application for the 2007 PT Cruiser. You will also need the Blue Ox Base Plates Adapter Kit, item # BX8833, to connect the Tow Ready Tow Bar to the Blue Ox base plates. An adapter is not needed if a Blue Ox tow bar is used.

Next, a lighting solution is required to activate or provide tail light at the rear of the PT Cruiser. If you will not be towing the vehicle often, I would recommend the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, item # RM-2120. If you plan on towing the vehicle more often I would recommend the Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Tail Light Wiring Kit, item # BX8869, and Blue Ox 4-Wire, Coiled Electrical Cord and plugs, item # BX8861, which install in the tail light housing, remains on the vehicle, and does not compromise the vehicles tail light wiring.

You will also need a set of Safety cables to go from the base plate kit to the towing vehicle. The Blue Ox 3 foot Safety Cables, item # BX88207, would work well for this setup.

Finally, the information I have shows that the 2007 PT Cruiser with automatic transmission requires a lube pump for flat towing, and that the manual transmission models are flat towable as is. You will need to confirm the towability and pre-towing procedures for your vehicle with the owner manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for specific towing procedures.
