Recommended Bike Rack With Tilt or Swing for Truck Bed Camper Rear Door Access
Question:
I have a truck camper that sits in the bed of my truck. A 2014 GMC Sierra, The camper extends from the back of my truck about 18 inches. It is my plan to a receiver extension, 12 to 18 inches to extend the receiver back to accept a bicycle rack, or I need a rack with a 20 inch hitch bar, which I dont think is made, so I considered the receiver extension. We only need to carry two bicycles, but what we would like is either a rack that tilts down or swings away so while driving we dont have to take the bikes or racks off to enter the back door of the camper. On the tilt rack, can the bikes be left on the rack when tilted? If not, then probably a swing rack will be needed... The only swing racks I see from Yakima is for 4 bicycles and we dont need that much rack. I thought the tilt rack might accommodate what we wanted accomplish but I dont always want to take the bikes off when traveling and staying one night in locations. I included a picture of the back of our truck and camper. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

For your 2014 GMC Sierra with in-bed camper, I recommend the Curt Extender for 2" Receivers -18" Long # C45796. This will get your trailer hitch out far enough so you can add your bike rack. Using an adapter like this will reduce your trailer hitch receiver's tongue weight rating by 50% which should leave you in fine condition for a 2 bike rack.
For your 2 bike rack, I recommend the RockyMounts BackStage 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" - Tilting - Swinging # RKY10002. This rack will securely hold your two bikes and will allow you the tilting or the swing away function to allow you the most easy access to your camper.
There are many options for platform style tilting racks that will work for your application. I recommend getting a rack that has the bike lock and hitch lock integrated to secure your investment. I've attached a link to all your options.
You may want to consider a support strap like # 18050 because of the weight along with the extension for increased stability.
