Determining Bearing Size for Trailer that Uses Same Inner and Outer Race
Question:
My bearings burned up while towing the trailer . I was able to recover the outer bearings and both races. The races are the same size for the inner and outer bearing. Does this mean the inner and outer bearings halve to be the same size? My trailer is stranded at a family members farm outside of town so i can not measure the axle of spindle

Having the same inner and outer races may indicate that the inner and outer bearings on your trailer are also the same, but it is not a guarantee. This is because some races are designed to fit multiple bearing sizes, as the race will go on the outside of the bearing. Different bearing numbers may have the same outer diameter, meaning they may be compatible with the same race, but have a different inner diameter, which is the important measurement when finding the correct bearing for your spindle.
For example, the # L44610 race fits both the # L44643 and # L44649 bearing.
If you are able to locate the numbers that should be stamped onto the bearing and races that you have, I will be happy to look into this further to see if we can determine what you will need. Knowing the axle capacity on your trailer will also help to narrow down the options.
I have attached a couple of articles on trailer bearings and hubs that you might also find helpful.
