Replacement Ratchet Arm Assembly for Older Thule T2 Hitch Bike Rack

Question:

I must have an older T2 hitch rack. I now have a Surly Ice Cream Truck and a Trek Stache 9.6. Really a pain to load and I only get 1 click on the rachet. Not inspiring confidence. My friend has the same rack but his rachet arm is longer making it easier to load and more secure. is this the updated part? Replacement Locking Ratchet Arm Assembly for Thule T2 Hitch Bike Rack or Sidearm Roof-Mount Rack Item # 753-3579. Thanks!

I spoke with my contact at Thule regarding the Locking Ratchet Arm Assembly # 753-3579 referenced in your question. He stated that it does not appear that the replacement part has had any recent upgrades, but it will also depend on which particular model T2 you currently have as to whether or not this will be compatible. This ratchet arm is designed for older Thule T2 hitch bike racks TH916, TH916XT, TH917 and TH917XT. I did also go out to the warehouse to take a look at this part and measured a total length of 29-1/2 inches. If this is the correct replacement ratchet arm for your bike rack, you can measure the existing part on your carrier to see if this will provide an upgrade in terms of length.

We have other replacement ratchets available as well, such as the Replacement Locking Ratchet # 752-1272-001 for the T2 models TH916XTR and TH917XTR. This has an overall length of 31-1/2 inches. This particular ratchet arm has been upgraded so it may offer more length than your existing unit.

If you are able to locate the model number for your existing bike rack, I will be happy to recommend the correct replacement ratchet arm and also confirm its length.
