Moving P3 Brake Control between 2009 Wrangler and 2017 Tacoma and Weight Distribution for Wrangler

Question:

It is my understanding that, to a certain extent, the P3 is modular can be easily swapped between vehicles. What do I need to be able to do this between a 2009 Wrangler Unlimited and a 2017 Tacoma? Ive got the information for the ETBC7 kit for the Wrangler and the Tacoma already has a 7 pin connector. As far as load distribution, it would be for the Wrangler. The trailer in question is 2,600 pounds dry and Im figuring 3,000-3,200 loaded. What would be the best option? Ive never pulled anything of substantial weight behind the Wrangler so Im also wondering if sway control would be a good idea. The trailer is approximately the same or slightly larger surface area than the Wrangler

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional Item # 90195 can be moved between 2 vehicles easily. The controller comes with 2 mounting brackets so you can use one in your 2009 Jeep Wrangler and the other in the 2017 Toyota Tacoma. It also comes with a universal pigtail which you would use with the # ETBC7 set up on the Jeep. So the only other part you will need is wiring harness # 3031-P to plug the controller into the Tacoma.

Based on the dry and estimated gross trailer weight (2,600 to 3,200 pounds) the trailer tongue weight will be 260 to 480 pounds depending on if it is loaded or not. For a system that covers most of that range I recommend Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 4,500 lbs GTW, 450 lbs TW Item # FA92-00-0450. It is rated up to 450 pounds tongue weight. It also comes with built in sway control. I have linked a video review of this system for you.

The system requires a ball with a 1 inch diameter shank. For a 2 inch ball use # 40038 and for a 2-5/16 inch use # 63847.
