Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
Question:
what would you recomend for a fifth wheel hitch for this pickup?

If your 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab has a 5-1/2 foot bed, the best option for towing a 5th wheel trailer is with a fixed hitch and a Sidewinder King Pin. This is because a standard sliding hitch will not provide enough clearance when making sharp turns with your truck.
Starting with the hitch, I recommend looking at the M5 Series 5th Wheel Hitch # RP30928 along with the Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP56007-53. This hitch features a 20,000 pound towing capacity and a nice double jaw that will completely surround the trailer's king pin to ensure a secure connection. The custom base rails will use existing holes in your truck's frame and cut down on installation time by more than half when compared to universal kits. Just note that this kit will not work in trucks with Flareside/Stepside beds.
I have attached the installation details and a video demonstration on this system for you to check out.
You will then need to install a Sidewinder on your trailer to provide the necessary clearance with your short bed truck. The Sidewinder will move the pivot point 22 inches behind the king pin. These are designed to replace the standard king pin on your trailer, so you will first need to locate the existing pin box number. This should be displayed somewhere on the pin box itself with a sticker or stamp. If you cannot find the number, you can also contact the trailer manufacturer with your VIN and they will be able to provide you with this information.
For example, the Reese 5th Airborne Premium Sidewinder # RP61412 is designed for use with the Lippert 116, 1716 and 0115 pin boxes. If you are able to tell me the pin box number on your trailer, I will be happy to recommend a compatible Sidewinder product. I have also attached a helpful article on the subject along with a link that will take you to our available selection of Sidewinders.
