Mounting and Installation of an Electric Trailer Brake Controller in a 2000 GMC Yukon XL
Question:
I was trying to figure out where the P3 brake controller would mount in my Yukon XL. The only places I can see that it might fit are either on the dash or under, just above the brake pedal, but I cant see any plugs down there that look like the one in the picture on your website for the GMC wiring kit. Any suggestions?

You have stumbled upon one of the great brake controller conundrums that is often overlooked; and that is where to mount the brake controller. There is no definitive answer but there are some criteria that you should follow that will help you choose the best location.
You will want the controller within easy reach of the driver and in a place where it will not obscure the drivers view of the road. It will also need to be mounted within the ranges specified in the instructions (linked for reference) in the direction of travel. In the past, our installers have installed brake controllers on the bottom of the dash, to the right of the steering wheel on your generation GMC Yukon.
This is also a good location because the port where the brake controller wiring harness, # 3025-P, is near by. What you will be looking for is a black electrical junction box located behind and to the left of the brake pedal. You will remove the cover and see numerous open ports. Plug in the harness in the open spot in the top row, second from the left. I have included a video for you to view that should help with installation and mounting.
