Can Primus IQ Brake Controller # TK90160 for 1999 Ram 1500 Work on 2016 Ram 2500 as Well

Hi - we have a 99 1500 Ram that we are about to buy a Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller for. The 99 will probably get replaced next year by a 15 or 16 2500 Diesel Ram. Just want to ask if the Tekonsha Brake Controller can be moved from the 99 to the 15 or 16 w/o any big problems? Thanks! Truck is a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie

One of the greatest things about the Tekonsha brake controllers is how universal they are. If your 1999 Dodge Ram Laramie came with a factory connector at the rear then you will simply need to use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3020-P to install the Primus IQ # TK90160.

The only thing that you will need to change for a 2015 of 2016 Ram 2500 would be the Plug-In Adapter. For either of those newer pickups you will need part # 3024-P instead. Extremely simple to swap the brake controller between trucks.

The only way that the situation would be different is if your 1999 Ram didn't already have a factory connector. In that case you will just hardwire the included pigtail (White to Ground, Blue to 7-Way, Red to COLD side of stop light switch, and Black to 12V power) which can be disconnected in the back of the Primus IQ for when you are ready to move it.
