Hopkins 6-Pole Round to 7-Way Blade Adapter Not Compatible with 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

I just received this part 47435 but find the center hole on the 6 round end of the adapter is just a bit too small to fit over the center pin on the tow vehicles 6 round connector. Does this mean the issue is with the tow vehicle wiring or is there something else that can be done to make this adapter fit? Im not sure if the center pin is wired for 12V or brake, but that could be source of problem? Tow vehicle is a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 but the wiring harness was changed during a recall related to the bumper several years ago so its not the original connector. We are pulling a two horse trailer with a 7 blade plug

Most trailer connectors on vehicles use a standard size for the pins but there are a few out there that do not. That is likely what the issue is. It does not have anything to do with the function of the center pin.

The best solution for you is to change the connector on your 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee to a 7-Way because it is likely that all the adapters will have the same problem. Since your Jeep already has a 6-Way and the wiring is all there you just have to move the wires from the 6-Way to the back of a 7-Way. I recommend Hopkins Endurance 7-Way Trailer Connector Socket - Vehicle End - Ergonomic Design Item # HM48480. It even comes with a mounting bracket. You just have to attach the wires by function. I have linked a help article that includes diagrams of various trailer connector functions which will help. Be sure to go by the wire function and not color.
