To start, this hitch will require that 8 holes be drilled. Four holes in the spare tire well, and 4 in the underside of the bumper.

You will need to temporarily remove the spare tire. Hold the hitch in place so that it is centered and square on the rear of the vehicle. The flat rectangular plate above the receiver opening will attach to the underside of the bumper beam and the fascia under the bumper will need to be notched so that the vertical support under the plate that attaches to the bumper beam will pass through it.

Once the fascia has been notched, and the hitch is centered on the vehicle, use the hitch as a template to mark the hole locations. The four holes in the bumper beam are 1/2 inch in diameter, and the four in the spare tire well need to be 3/8 inch. The two U bolts included with the hitch will need to be worked into the holes in the underside of the bumper beam. The 4 bolts and washers attach the rest of the hitch to the spare tire well. Torque all bolts according the the ratings listed in the instructions.

Once installed, I would recommend using some silicone sealant to seal around the bolts in the spare tire well to keep exhaust fumes and moisture from accessing the interior of the vehicle.

Also keep in mind, that if you are planning on using this hitch for a non trailer load, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, Curt Manufacturing recommends using a stabilizer strap like part # 10850. Failure to use a strap will void the hitch warranty.
