Video Transcript for WeatherTech Easy-On Stone and Bug Shield Deflector Installation - 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab, we're going to be installing the Weather Tech easy on stone and bug shield deflector. Part number WT50258. This Weather Tech bug shield is specifically designed to fit your 2015 and up Chevrolet Colorado. It's designed to protect your Colorado's hood from flying debris and bugs, which later lead to paint chips and bug stains. How it works is, it's going to redirect air flow up and around your Colorado, preventing impacts to your hood or windshield. It's scratch resistant, it's virtually indestructible and it will absorb impacts for large rocks. Not only is it going to protect your Colorado, but it's going to add style to your ride. It attaches underneath your hood with the included self tapping screws, so you can rest assure, it's not going to fly off during your travels. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed.

We've got some pre-assembly to do on our bug shield, before we move onto our Colorado. Let's go ahead and get started. We're going to be working with the two furthest most holes out on the end. We'll take one of our black clips, and we're going to be installing it in this direction. We'll need a black screw and a black washer. Put that on, once we line it up, it will be coming down through the top here.

Get it started. Then to finish it off, we'll need a Phillips head screwdriver. Once we get it nice and tight, we can repeat the same process on the other side.Once both black clips are installed, we can open up our hood on our Colorado. Now let's take our bug shield and put it in the position. What we want to do, is we want to center the two tabs here up with the hood latch.Once we've got our bug shield where we want, we can then mark out where our black clips are on the actual hood.

Now it doesn't need to be a large mark. This is just going to give us the position of where we need to put our protective film, so our clips do not scratch our hood. You can see I've already got a small mark on the inside, you'll want to do that same for the other side. We'll need to take our included alcohol swabs and clean the areas where each tab is. Each tab has some adhesive underneath of it, that way when we pull the paper, it will then be able to stick to the underside of the hood. Now for this specific tab, when we actually install it permanently, we will pull down on that weather seal and the tab will go underneath. That's going to be the same for this one down here.

So what we'll do is, we'll just take the alcohol swab, and just clean up that area on each tab. With everything cleaned, we can now remove the bug shield once more. Once we have it marked out, we need to remove a small bead of caulk underneath our hood here, that way the clip can easily slide in place. You can just take a razor blade, and cut out the area there. You don't need to cut out too much, just where your mark was.Now we can take our protective film, place it over the spot where we cut it out. We can repeat that process on the other side, and then pull off the adhesive paper, and permanently put it into position. We'll need to remember to put those tabs underneath the weather stripping here on each side. Just push it in place. When we get to our clips, we'll want to be sure and push those on. You'll have to apply a little bit of pressure, but they should just clip right in place. Just like that. Now we can take our remaining hardware, and put it in place. We'll take the plastic washer and the self tapping screw. We're going to go up into the underside of our hood. Then we can repeat the same process on down. With the bug shield installed, we can close our hood and see how it looks. The last step is to install our bump on's. All these are really going to do, is prevent the bug shield from coming in contact with our Colorado as we're driving on the road. We can spread these out evenly along the bug shield. You can go along, test out where it may come in contact, and then we can place our bump on's on the Colorado. Just like that. As you can see, rather than coming in contact with the hood, it's just going to come in contact with the bump on.Perfect.And that's going to complete our installation of the Weather Tech easy on stone and bug shield deflector. Part number WT50258, on our 2018 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab.

I have purchased and used WeatherTech products in the past, always had good quality and concise installation instructions. I recently added the Stone and Bug deflector on my 2019 Colorado, it looks great. Having a new windshield installed because of a stone crack, hope to avoid these in the future.

Great looks perfect and does the job !

I ordered a bug deflector specific for my truck but this one seemed to be a generic for GM trucks. the tabs did not fit properly for the underside of my hood. The double sided tape did not match properly to the underside of the hood and the tape was not sticky enough to adhere to the metal. The outboard retainer clips were not the proper style to clip to my hood and stay in place. Road vibaration causes the clips to disengage each time I drive the vehicle

It is unusual that the bug shield is not fitting for you. I want to help figure out what may be happening. Would you be able to send me a picture of how it looks on the truck. Do you have the ZR2 model of the Chevy Colorado?

Which also for and looks great on my Chevy Colorado.

I purchased this bug deflector for my Jayco Greyhawk motorhome about a year ago and it has held up beautifully. I am sure that without it I would have chips and issues on the motorhome after putting 15k miles on it. Thanks e-trailer for quick shipments and great support.

by:

It fit fine. Only issue was with the first hole on the drivers side. It was either thin or drilled a bit larger as the screw for it would not bite and hold. I used a clip I had on hand for this and it worked fine.

by:

I really like it. Easy to install and very sleek looking
I need to order another one because I hit a deer and my hood is getting replaced, so I will be getting another one

by:

Really great product and a perfect hood protector from road rocks and bugs.

by:

Easy installation, arrived fast and great price!

by:

Install went ok, some of the red plastic you pull off the adhesive broke off and would not come off. Hope it will not effect long term performance of bug shield.

by:

Weather Tech Easy-on bug guard has worked great since installed a year ago. UV damage has not occurred. Holds up extremely well to driving usage.

by:

It is a quality product, but I would not say it is an easy install. After removing the necessary fasteners, it was tricky getting the tabs lined up between the rubber lip and hood. I don’t think I could have accomplished this without my wife’s help. Secondly, some of six included replacement fasteners were extremely difficult to install.

Weathertech only included the six required fasteners with no spares. I bent the tips of the two most outboard fasteners trying to get them aligned with the existing holes (hard to see when peering through the rubber and shield), so those two are not properly anchored at the moment.

I contacted Weathertech; they are sending me replacements free of charge. Weathertech should consider including a few extras in the kit.

The install, which after viewing etrailer’s excellent video, should have taken 30 minutes or less, but because of those fastener issues, took me about 1.5 hours.

by:

Looks Good and Does what it is made to do. Thanks etrailer

I’ve owned six chevy trucks. My current trusted steed is a 2008, silverado 2500HD, ext cab, long box. I bought it new and now have 339,000 miles on her. I added this bug shield to offer more protection and grace. It worked! Love it.

by:

Had this bug deflector for a year now. Very happy with it. Easy to install yourself using existing parts on the stock truck. Better than the adhesive only on other brands. Solid and looks great.

by:

Easy to install and durable!

by:

This bug shield was easy to install. The installation instructions were clear and easy to understand. This bug shield has met all my expectations after two summers of Arizona heat & over 10,000 miles.

by:

Perfect fit & easy to install. Start to finish maybe 20 minutes. Love it.
