Hitch Size Compatibility with Weight Distribution System on 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Question:
Hi- I plan on pulling a Casita 17 trailer below its max weight of 3500/365 tongue. I was told the Jeep had a Class III hitch because of the 2 receiver opening. They have a Class II Hitch with a 2 inch receiver. Jeep Max tow is 3500/350 tongue. My understanding is I should not use a WDH on a Class 2 receiver. Is that correct? Will it hurt if I leave it on as it also helps with sway. Its an Andersen WDH. Newbie to towing and owning a trailer.

Any trailer hitch that can safely be used with a weight distribution/sway control system (WD/SC) will indicate this capability on its safety/warning sticker. You cannot use such a system unless the hitch manufacturer indicates that this is permissible, such as with hitch # DT78MR.
Most times a 2-inch hitch will be rated as Class III, not Class II. The Class II hitches we offer are all the 1-1/4-inch size. On the linked page you can see all aftermarket hitches in both sizes and classes that are confirmed to fit your 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I also linked two articles on hitches that may help clarify further.
You will note that if a hitch is indeed rated for use with WD/SC we will indicate this in the specs.
There are also stand-alone sway control units like # 83660 and other similar products shown on the other linked page.
