I was able to see that you ordered the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14301 for your 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Since it has a 2 inch receiver you will want to find a ball mount with a 2 inch shank.
I have attached an article that will help you to find a ball mount with the correct rise or drop for your application. A Ball Mount Kit, like part # 989900, might be a good option because it comes with 2 shanks, one with a 3/4" rise or 2" drop and the other with a 2-3/4" rise or 4" drop, 2 hitch balls, one with a 1-7/8" diameter and the other with a 2" diameter, and a hitch pin and clip.
An adjustable ball mount, like the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount # BWTS10037B, is a popular option for pickups because of the many different applications that it can apply to.
The Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 is a great brake controller that will apply the brakes on your trailer in proportion to the amount of braking that is applied in your Silverado. I have attached a video of this being install in a 2009 Silverado for you to use as a reference.
