Recommended Bike Rack to Transport E-Bike with Class I Hitch on 2007 Pontiac Solstice
Question:
My car : 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP I have the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4inch Item # 24833 and I have the PR8062403 As I understand, this bike rack can not support more then 62 lbs, thats not enough to carry 1 electric bike and 1 citybike. The bike racks you propose are 2inch racks, so I need an adapter. But is this OK icw the drac-tite class 1 reciever? Kind regards, Jean-Paul

Transporting a heavier electric bike and city bike with the Class I Draw Tite Hitch # 24833 on your 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP might be difficult, but I do have some possible solutions for you.
As you mentioned, the weight capacity for your bike rack will not be sufficient for safely transporting these bikes. Depending on how heavy your e-bike is, we do have other bike racks that are compatible with your Class I hitch that will provide slightly larger weight capacities. For example, the Swagman Chinook 2 Bike Platform Rack # S64683 can transport up to 2 bikes at 45 pounds each (90 pounds total). This is a very nice platform-style rack that can tilt away from the vehicle to allow for easy rear cargo access. A hitch and bike lock are also included to secure the rack to the vehicle and your bikes to the rack.
Another possible option, as you mentioned in your question, is using a Hitch Adapter like the Brophy # HTAD to provide a 2 inch receiver opening to use with higher rated bike racks. The issue with using this or any similar adapter is that it is going to reduce the trailer hitch tongue weight capacity by 50%. This means that when using the adapter, the 200 pound tongue weight capacity on your Draw-Tite hitch will be reduced to 100 pounds. Keeping in mind that the weight of the bike rack itself counts against this capacity, you will likely have a hard time staying under this limit with your two bikes loaded.
If possible, I recommend removing the battery from your electric bike, as this can greatly reduce its weight to hopefully be light enough for one of these options.
I have attached a link that will take you to our available bike racks that you can look through.
