Best Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2016 Chevy 2500 Silverado with 6 1/2 bed

Question:

I have multiple questions regarding this topic. First off i do not have a fifth wheel trailer yet. We are in our search for our first family camper. Were looking to find one with a UVW of 7000-8000 lb and GVWR under 13000. Now more about my truck, i have a 6 1/2foot bed with a bed rug liner in it. I use my truck for work and i pack alot of stuff in the bed. Ideally id like to have a removable hitch so i can use my bed for work. Ive seen trucks with the standard rails left in and that would work fine, i dont need completely empty bed. Will these hitches be able to work with my bed rug? I realize i will probably have to cut holes or sections out of the rug. Im a 300lb strong fella so i dont mind the hitch being heavy but ideally id like to be able to remove and install by myself if thats possible. I am new to the fifth wheel hitch world and I like the sound of an auto slide hitch so i do not possibly damage my truck, Any other info you could give me on this issue would be appreciated. Thanks

Auto slide hitches are the way to go for a short bed truck since they don't force you to get out and activate them. They are going to be heavy since there is a lot of moving parts which have to be rated for the towing capacity. That being said the Demco Hitch part # DM8550022 can be installed an removed in sections which allows for a lighter weight install removal.

Your Bed Rug will need to be trimmed for any fifth wheel hitch rail kits. The rail kit to use with this hitch is the # DM8552011-71 which is a custom fit kit for your truck.
