Should SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System SM99251 Be Installed After Stop Light Switch RM-751471

Question:

I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Im wanting to flat tow. Ive order the HM56208 tail light wiring kit, the RM88400 brake relay kit, and the SMI99251 Stay-IN-Play breaking system. Im just a little confused on the installation order of all these parts since they integrate together. Im guessing the tail light kit installs first, then the breaking system, and then the break relay? It would be great if there was a supplemental wiring diagram that showed the breaking system WITH the break relay.

The Hopkins flat towing wiring harness kit # HM56208 is a correct fit for your 2017 Jeep Cherokee and this pretty much just plugs in at the taillight connectors; the white ground wire is to be installed to a metal surface.

The SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 is best installed AFTER you install the Stop Light Switch # RM-751471. I asked our most-experienced installer and he said the SMI install will go easier if you have the stop light switch already in place; you can add a wire extension to the brake light switch wire to give you more working room to make the SMI install easier.
