Diameter Of Bulldog BX1 Gooseneck Coupler Base

Question:

I am currently building a flatbed for my pickup and Im reassessing the ball into and below the deck of the flatbed. My question is, how big are gooseneck couplers and what size should the hole be surrounding where the ball is mounted down in the bed? Essentially how much room is needed for the gooseneck coupler to articulate and swivel during towing? I nearly have the bed complete but I am second guessing myself on the diameter of the 40,000lb coupler sizes. Thanks as always for your good customer service and parts.

I went to the warehouse and took a couple measurements of the Bulldog BX1 Gooseneck Coupler # BD1289200300. This coupler measures 8 inches x 9 inches (see attached photo). This is taking into account the release handle on the base of the coupler.

Since gooseneck balls are typically on the outside of the truck bed the clearance needed is not given, but I would make sure you have plenty of room for the coupler to move.
