Replacement Parts for Yakima RidgeBack 2 Bike Rack

Question:

Hello, I recently moved out of state and had to remove the bike rack from my hitch in order to use a Uhaul trailer. The rack was very difficult to remove but I was able to take it out after I had connected the bike rack to a tree with a chain while driving forward. The internal metal shank the spring piece was stuck during the process and I am unable to remove the red piece in order to put the 2 metal adapter on. I am not sure what is the best way to go about this and hoping this is an easy fix. Additionally, the red cap on the top of the bike rack was broken off somehow and I was wondering if there was a replacement part for it? Thank you!

Your Yakima RidgeBack 2 Bike Rack uses a SpeedKnob that tightens the rack inside your trailer hitch receiver. Before removing the hitch pin and the bike rack, you will need to turn and loosen this knob so the shank can slide out of the receiver.

To help with removing the red 2 inch adapter from the shank, you can try manipulating the SpeedKnob on the front of the rack while you try to remove the silver and red pieces. You should be able to free up these pieces so they can easily slide off the rack.

We do have replacement parts available for the RidgeBack Bike Rack. If you need to replace the 2 Inch Shank Adapter, you will use # 8880612 if it was manufactured after November 2015. We unfortunately do not have a shank that is compatible with pre-November 2015 models. For a replacement SpeedKnob and Wedge Assembly you will use # 8880508.

I checked with Yakima and they do not currently have a replacement part available for the red cap that sits on top of the carrier.
