Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2005 Ford F-150 To Use Trucks Max Towing Capacity
Question:
I have a 2005 Ford F150 4.6L V8 STX single cab model with 3.55 gears and from what I can tell the truck can tow up to 6500lbs but I think 6000lbs max might be best. I noticed the class 3 trailer hitch was rated for 5000lbs would I need a class 4 even though it goes up to 10000lbs tow rating?

Your best option would be to go with a trailer hitch that is rated for more weight than what you truck can tow so that you can tow as much as the truck would let you.
For that the Curt hitch part # C14357 that you referenced would be a great option confirmed to fit your 2005 Ford F-150. Like you said, this hitch has a capacity of 10,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs.
With towing setups you are limited by the lowest rated component in the setup. So if your truck is rated lower than the hitch the capacity for the truck would be the overall capacity.
