How To Choose Adjustable Weight Distribution Shank
Question:
Several years ago I purchased a 1999 Trail-Lite Bantam M-17. I was using a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan and purchased the Curt 17022 weight distribution kit. It works well for the drive from north central Iowa to Oshkosh, WI. I now also have a 2008 Dodge Dakota with the factory trailing package. Id like to pull the camper with the Dakota now, but dont want to change the hitch that is set up for the Caravan in case I would need to use it. I realize Id need the Curt 17107 round bar head to utilize the anti-sway bar. Can you recommend which weight distribution replacement adjustable shank I should use for the Dakota? Its 4WD and a 4 door.

The shank you choose would depend on the difference between the height of the trailer coupler and the height of the towing vehicle receiver.
Park the trailer and the towing vehicle on level pavement. You then need to measure the distance form the top of the receiver opening to the ground. Then measure the distance from the bottom of the trailer coupler to the ground.
If the towing vehicle receiver height is greater, you a ball mount with a drop. If the trailer coupler height is greater, use a ball mount with a rise.
I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to choose the right ball mount. I have also attached a link to our product page for the ball mounts we offer from Curt.
