Kayak and SUP Carrying Options for 2011 Ram 2500 with Hard Tonneau Cover

Question:

I have a hard tonneau cover on my truck. I would like to know if it possible to fasten base rails down directly to the cover and can they be shortened neatly to approximately 66inch to 68. Also what is the minimum width the crossbars can be set. Primary use will be to transport kayaks and SUPs. Thanks

Thank you for the photo of your Ram's hard tonneau cover on which you wish to transport a kayak and/or stand-up-paddleboard (SUP). You have several ways to go here.

The easiest lowest-cost option is to use foam block style carriers like # MPG152 which can rest directly on the cover without the weight and expense of a rack. These foam blocks can also be used on rack bars if you prefer. No permanent modifications to your cover are required.

We also offer a vacuum cup carrier from SeaSucker, their USA-made watersports carrier # 298-BX1806, which uses powerful vacuum cups to secure to the cover surface. The linked video shows the performance of this high-strength vacuum system.

If you prefer to permanently install a track-type rack system on the cover you will need to drill into it. The system I like is Rhino-Rack's heavy-duty bar rack # Y01-130 which includes 63-inch tracks and adjustable 59-inch crossbars you can place where you desire.

No matter which way you go, be sure to check the weight capacity of the cover to ensure it can handle the total combined weight of your board, kayak and chosen carrier.
