Weight Distribution Recommendation for Trailer Weighing 4,300 with Sway Control that Works in Rain

Question:

I have a silly question. I am considering upgrading my travel trailer from 19foot to 26. Not sure if my friction sway bar will work on a unit that long? Also, I am told never to tow in the rain with a friction sway bar, and I never have. is there any truth to this? If so, what hitch would you recommend with built-in sway for a 4,200# unladen weight travel trailer towing with a 2005 Chevy Trialblazer? Owners manual says I can tow 6,100 with WDH, my 19foot unit is 3500#, but will be going a little heavier and longer. I hate to buy another WDH if not necessary, the one I have does not have built -n sway, can I continue to use friction if I upgrade? What about rain?

With rain you have to remove the friction sway control. If you are going to a much heavier trailer you are most likely going to need to upgrade your weight distribution system though so best option would be a new WD system with built in sway control that doesn't have the rain restrictions.

Best option for that would be the Strait Line part # RP66083 which has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs and features only sway control that is designed to prevent sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
