Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty with 7.3 Liter Powerstroke

Question:

I have a early 1999 F250 Superduty 7.3 Powerstroke with 4r100 Trans, I wish to add an extra Trans Cooler to help pull a 30 travel trailer in the mountains I would like to keep the OEM Cooler and remote mount the Extra Cooler

You can certainly use the Derale 24 Inch Frame Rail Fluid Cooler, # D13225, for your 1999 Ford F-250. You would also need Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings, # D13025, for the 7.3 liter Powerstroke. Any transmission cooler will could essentially be considered a remote mount application. I have included a link to the coolers recommended for your truck and engine. I have also included a link to our transmission cooler FAQ article and a video showing a typical installation.

For your truck and the mountainous terrain, I recommend the Derale Transmission Cooler, # D12904, with the D13025 fittings mentioned above. This is a class IV cooler rated for up to 12,000 pounds gross trailer weight.

Is the Derale Transmission Cooler D12904 still the best heavy duty option for the early 1999 ford 7.3 4r100 to date.is it made in USA? or are there better options today? The Mishimoto 7.3L Transmission Cooler is highly rated in aftermarket. Thanks

I actually think the Derale # D13105 is the better option for your F-250. It's a bit larger than the model you referenced (which leads to more efficient cooling) and it's made right here in the USA. You'll also want to add the Adapter Fitting # D13025 to help with installation.

The tubing of the Derale # D13105 passes through the cooler in 10 rows.
