Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2005 GMC Yukon XL Towing 2017 Jay Flight 27BHS

Question:

I have a 2005 Yukon XL SLE 1500, 5.3L V8, with a listed tow capacity of 8100. I am in the process of purchasing a 2017 Jay Flight 27BHS, with a unloaded weight of 6445. I am adding an additional 500 pounds gear, clothes, food, etc, and 400 pounds for additional passengers. Round it up to 1000 and I have a total towing weight of 7445. This leaves me with 655 pounds available before max tow capacity. Is this adequate and safe? I have added a picture of the all in oneinch tow package the dealership wants to sell me. Please help!

Weight distribution is a great choice when you are near the towing capacity of a vehicle. In a lot of cases using a WD system even gives you additional towing capacity. If that were true for your setup the hitch of your 2005 GMC Yukon would have a second set of towing capacities that would be a bit higher.

But even if not, you'd still be under the towing capacity so you would be fine.

For a weight distribution system the part # RP66084 would be what I would recommend. It has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs and features the only sway control to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
