Wiring Needed for Towing a Trailer with Electric Trailer Brakes
Question:
Does this harness work for trailers with electronic brakes?

To wire your tow vehicle to tow a trailer with electric brakes you will need a 4-Way wiring harness like the # 118461 harness that you selected along with a Brake Controller 7- & 4-Way Installation Kit, item # ETBC7.
An electric brake controller, like the P2, item # 90885, will also be needed to complete the installation. Any brake controller will work, I recommend the P2 because it is easy to use and applies the trailer brakes in proportion with the rate that the tow vehicle is stopping.
We have a very informative step by step article on installation of the # ETBC7 kit and a 2-part video installation of this kit. I have also included a video installation of the 118461 harness being installed on a 2001 Subaru Outback Wagon.
You will need to use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993, if needed, to locate the stop light circuit wire under the dash at the brake pedal switch, to connect to the red wire from the brake controller you choose. The wire needed will have 12-volt power only when the brake pedal is pressed.
