Recommended Weight Distribution for 2017 StarCraft Travel Trailer
Question:
Hello, I own a 2017 StarCraft Satellite RV 3100 lbs.. I pull it with a 2011 Nissan Pro4X. Im needing a sway control system and think the Reese Dual-cam Hitch System part #26002 will be good. Can you give me your thoughts? What, in addition to the hitch system is needed? Thank you!

The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big will result in a stiff, uncomfortable experience.
I did some research and found the 18DS trailer has a dry weight of 3,055-lbs and has a gross weight of 3,790-lbs. If you add a couple hundred lbs of cargo behind the rear axle you are near 4,000-lbs. The tongue weight should be about 400 to 600-lbs.
I recommend a system like the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w Sway Control. If your tongue weight falls in the below 500 lbs, go with # RP66558. If the tongue weight is above 500 lbs, go with # RP66559. The system has integrated friction pads built-in to the spring-bar hangers to prevent sway.
The hitch ball is sold separately. For a 2-inch ball I recommend part # A-90, and for a 2-5/16 inch ball I recommend part # 19286.
