Will the Tekonsha PowerTrac Brake Controller Work With a 1996 Winnebago Vectra RV
Question:
I need a brake controller for my RV. Its a 1996 Winnebago Vectra on an Osh Kosh chasis. I know I will have to do some hard wiring. Will the Tekonsha Powertrak work fine? Its just electric. Does the amount of braking vary or is it constant? Thanks.

The Tekonsha PowerTrac # 39523 will work with your Winnebago to apply the electric brakes on your trailer. You can either cut the connector off of the end to hardwire it or you can use the Pigtail Wiring Harness # 7894 for easy removal.
You will want to run the White wire to your ground which will be the negative battery terminal, the Blue wire to the brake controller pin on your wiring harness at the back of your RV, the Black wire will need to run to your battery for 12V power (with circuit breaker # PK54530), and the Red wire will run to the cold side of your stop light switch. The cold side is the wire that gets hot only when the brake pedal is pressed. You can use a Circuit Tester # PTW2992 to test the functions of your wires.
The PowerTrac is a Time Delayed brake controller which means it will apply the brakes on your trailer to a pre-set strength determined by the user after the brake pedal has been pressed. Unless you manually change the pre-set strength or use the manual override the amount and strength of braking will be constant after the brake is pressed and held.
If you would rather have a proportional brake controller that applies the brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as you do in your RV then the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 is a great option for you. This will use the same pigtail and circuit breaker as the PowerTrac.
I have attached review videos of both brake controllers for you to check out.
